Hayle Mill, Maidstone

Hayle Mill is a residential development located in the picturesque Loose Valley conservation area of Maidstone in Kent.

The development is a mixture of old and new buildings, some created by converting the Grade II listed former paper mill and some newly built. Together they provide a development of 42 leasehold homes with a mix of 1,2 and 3 bedrooms. The conversion was undertaken by the PJ Livesey Group under the watchful eye of English Heritage.

Hayle Mill sits in the Loose Valley which was designated a Conservation Area in 2000. The development is based around the water mill which was originally one of 13 mills along the valley. After it ceased to be a paper mill it played host to several small industries for a few years before falling into disrepair. Now the once derelict group of buildings have come alive again.

The mill pond and stream provide haven for a myriad of aquatic birds that live and breed here - notably kingfishers, swans, ducks, moorhens, coots and little grebe. Herons, egrets and Canada geese are also regular visitors.
